I created my MUSIC + YOGA class for a few reasons…
Firstly, I fell in love with yoga at my HIP HOP yoga studio in Melbourne because it reminded me of my teenage years growing up in Toronto, Canada listening to Hip Hop and RnB music. I connected to the studio and my yoga practice within weeks of attending and after only 2 months I left Australia and moved to LA to do my Yoga Teacher Training with LA Guru Steve Ross.
Secondly, I love music!!!! It has a way of motivating me out of a bad mood, or sets me up in a good mood for whatever I want to do – whether it’s cooking dinner or going for a run. I put on some good tunes and start moving my body like I just don’t care.
Thirdly, music affects the brain in many positive ways. It makes you smarter, happier, and more productive at any age. In my class, I play upbeat, fun music to help motivate my students and bring positive vibes. I want them to focus on the breath which helps to calm the mind and dismiss their daily thoughts and really enjoy their practice.
We all over think too much… make judgements about our bodies, about who we are and what we are doing with our lives. In my class, I create a moving meditation through each sequence of poses I put together so that my students lose sight of thoughts and just focus on inhaling and exhaling.
This class is a full body work out but has a relaxing end with savasana. You will leave feeling amazing and I have been told by my students that it helps them sleep better at night.
